Why is it important to you to incorporate recycled silver, coke bottles and beach glass in your jewelry?

I try to be as eco-friendly as possible.  I have always loved colorful glass items, pebbles and found objects.  I also grew up learning the importance of recycling.  Being able to put these two values together into my work is very satisfying and I hope brings awareness to using earth-friendly materials.

Who do you design your jewelry for?

When I am designing I think of someone who wants to have something unique, simple and strong. It's a secondary thought really.  I just enjoy creating the forms and shapes and thinking about how they relate to the body.

As a female business owner, what have been some of the biggest challenges and how did you overcome them?

After graduating with a BFA in Metal Arts I moved to San Francisco from New York state.  I started my business with a small loan from my brother with no clear plan or experience but found local resources to take classes quickly.  I was extremely focused on not compromising my artistic integrity while still making jewelry that women would love to wear.  I received a lot of support from Women's Initiative for Self Employment and SF Renaissance as well as from the  craft community.

What drives you to create?

I think that inventiveness is just a part of my personality. My father was a scientist and inventor and we were always creating together by means of experimentation.  I have a backlog of ideas to play with and just not enough time!
