NATIONAL GALLERY OF ART

Calder Folding Umbrella

This umbrella features a colorful rendering of Alexander Calder's 76-foot-long mobile, Untitled, which has served as the icon of the National Gallery of Art's East Building and gracefully presided over its atrium since 1977. The mobile was one of Calder's largest works, and it was also one of his last, completed only a few weeks before he died in 1976. One of the extraordinary things about this mobile is that while it weighs nearly 1,000 pounds, it moves ever so lightly, powered only by currents of air. This retractable umbrella comes with an auto open capability and a handsome slipcover. Measures 42 x 42 in. diameter.
