Wayne Thiebaud 2020 Calendar

This product is sold out.

His depictions of colorful confections made him famous, but Wayne Thiebaud (American, b. 1920) has also applied his formidable talents to a range of other subjects. His “aerial” landscapes are highly realistic yet approach abstraction. His cityscapes, which often feature exaggerated hills and multiple or distorted perspectives, affect the viewer like a roller-coaster ride—while forming the elegant compositions that make Thiebaud’s work unique.

Though his breakthrough came with a 1962 gallery exhibition in New York, Thiebaud chose to live and work in the decidedly slower-paced city of Sacramento, California. The surrounding farmland became a favorite subject, as did the urban landscape of San Francisco, a short distance to the west. A longtime professor at the University of California, Davis, he was awarded the prestigious National Medal of Arts in 1994. This calendar presents a sampling of Thiebaud’s work spanning nearly five decades.
