The arts flourished in sixteenth-century England under the patronage of the Tudors. As England’s relations with Continental Europe evolved, art and luxury goods served to legitimize a series of reigns and shifting policies, from Henry VII’s usurpation of the throne in 1485 to the death of his granddaughter Elizabeth I in 1603.
