Early modernist Florine Stettheimer (American, 1871 1944) was a well-known figure in New York society, famous for her salons and her art. She and her sisters Carrie and Ettie hosted gatherings with prominent writers and artists. These friends often became subjects for her paintings, which she rarely exhibited and never sold. Many of her works commemorate special occasions, and although she included herself in these paintings, she is usually depicted as a detached observer. Many of the artworks represented in this calendar were selected for the 2017 exhibition Florine Stettheimer: Painting Poetry at the Jewish Museum in New York.
