Created exclusively for the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco for Judy Chicago: A Retrospective, this t-shirt features Judy Chicago's icon artwork, Through the Flower 2, 1973. In the early 1970's Judy Chicago's work focused on transforming her abstract iconography to more clearly express her experiences as a woman. Through the Flower 2, 1973, expanded her previously developed "central core" imagery, now depicted as moving "through the flower;" a symbol of moving beyond the constraints of the construct of femininity. The pulsing and vibrating petals surround a center of pastel hues that fade into each other, applied using Chicago's signature sprayed acrylic technique. 100% cotton, unisex fit.
The de Young museum in San Francisco celebrates pioneering feminist artist Judy Chicago with a retrospective spanning from the 1960s to the present. The exhibition includes around 150 works and related archival material that chart the boundary-pushing path of Chicago whose lifelong fight against the erasure of women's achievement and creativity have changed the course of history.
