Francois Boucher painted the series The Four Seasons in 1755 for Madame de Pompadour, Mistress of Louis XV. The paintings were probably designed as overdoors for one of her residences. They depict pleasant pastimes, unlike earlier representations of the season, which depicted labors preformed at the various times of the year. 12 notecards (4 of each design) and 12 envelops. Measures 4 x 6 in.
