One of just four extant portraits of women by the celebrated Renaissance painter known as Parmagianino, the Schiava Turca is a painting shrouded in mystery. Aimee Ng, guest curator of the exhibition that brings this masterpiece to the United States for the first time, presents new research on the identity of the subject, the erroneously dubbed ''Turkish slave,'' and positions her in the context of allusive Italian portraiture. Ng's poetic reading is complemented by a foreword by David Ekserdjian, a leading authority on Parmagianino. The Legion of Honor displays this painting following its exhibition at The Frick Collection, New York. Hardcover, 52 pages.
