Henri Matisse Jazz Boxed Notecards

This exclusive set of boxed notecards was created in celebration of the exhibition Matisse’s "Jazz" Unbound on view at the de Young museum, located in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, California. This set contains 20 notecards, 4 of each design. VIII – Icarus (Icare), 1947; V – Horse, Rider and Clown (Le cheval, L'Ecuyere et le Clown), 1947; XV – The Knife Thrower (Le Lanceur de Couteaux), 1947; XI – The Codomas (Les Codomas), 1947; VII – The Heart (Le Coeur), 1947. Made in the USA. Each card measures 5 x 7 in.

Consisting of a portfolio book of twenty plates featuring abstract compositions, inspired by circus, ballet, and historical events Jazz (1947) is considered the culminating masterpiece of Henri Matisse as a graphic artist, reflecting his deeper more experimental involvement with printmaking and cutouts. In Matisse's development of the cutout technique, Jazz marks a creative milestone, as the cutout is used for the first time as a medium rather than a compositional tool.
