Venetian Jolly Curly Top Mask

Charming handmade mask, perfect to use as decor on a shelf or hang on the wall, or use as intended for your next costumed event or Carnevale. The tradition of hand crafting masks has remained unchanged for hundreds of years with the founding of the profession of mask making in Venice, Italy in April 1436 by the Masters of the Painters Guild. Today as in yesteryear, the artist first pressed papier mache into molds and coated the mask with plaster and next applied a second layer of papier mache. Moving into the final stages, the artist lines the back of the mask with gauze and places it in an oven to stiffen. Finally, the artist trims the edges and hand paints the finished mask for the final result. To clean: dusty lightly, do not use water. Made in Italy. Measures 11 x 12 x 4 in.
