California Poppy Brooch

This California poppy brooch leaves cast in hand patinated bronze with 24ct gold plated petals and cast bronze pearl centers. The California poppy is a perennial and annual plant, native to the United States. It is the official state flower of California and the 6th of April is designated as California Poppy Day. California poppy leaves were used medicinally by Native Americans and the pollen was used cosmetically. The seeds are used in cooking. Its golden blooms are a fitting symbol for the golden state. This unique jewelry is made by creating molds directly from botanical elements in a process similar to lost-wax casting. While traditional lost-wax casting begins with a hand-carved model of wax, Michael Michaud instead uses an actual leaf, branch or flower in place of the wax model. Michael Michaud jewelry is handcrafted in New York, NY, and is renowned for its beauty and workmanship. Measures 4 x 2 in.
