The Legion of Honor, a magnificent Beaux-arts building was modeled after the neoclassical Palais de la Légion d’Honneur in Paris. The museum, designed by George Applegarth, opened in 1924 on a bluff in San Francisco’s Lincoln Park overlooking the Golden Gate. Celebrating its hundredth anniversary in 2024­­-2025, the Legion of Honor showcases European painting, sculpture, decorative arts, ancient art, graphic arts, and contemporary art.

Marking the first dedicated exploration of these works since their debut in 1912, the exhibition at San Francisco's de Young Museum features more than twenty of Monet's views of Venice along with related paintings, photographs, prints, and ephemera.
