Artist Yoshiko Yamamoto is a self-taught block printmaker who strives always to fuse Japanese design sensibility with fine craftsmanship. Several years ago, Nawal Motawi, a longtime admirer of Yoshiko's work, approached her for a collaboration. Motawi thought Yamamoto's bold prints would work well as a raised-line tile design. She was right. Yamamoto's graceful, swaying scenes brought the clay to life. Framed with a quarter-sawn oak frame handmade by Dard Hunter Studios, are available with a natural Oak or Ebony finish. They can hang horizontally or vertically, or perch on a large easels. Frame features include mitered corners and stapled joints. Motawi tiles are made with a custom mix of clays and pressed from original plaster molds. Every tile is hand-glazed and embossed on the back for authenticity. At approximately 5/8 inches thick, every tile has a notch in the back for hanging unframed. Made in the USA. To clean, wipe with a damp cloth using mild soap. Ceramic. Measures 10 x 10 in.
