The Etruscan civilization, which flourish in Italy between 8th and 5th centuries B.C., left behind a language still not fully understood, as well as art and architecture created with great skill and inspiration. Etruscan gold jewelry excavated in the early 19th century was in great demand among ladies of the European courts and was often worn to state functions.
