AVAILABLE FEBRUARY 2024
Throughout his career, artist Lee Mingwei has used art as a form of considering how we care for ourselves and others. Organized in the laterphases of the COVID-19 pandemic, this project offers audiences new approaches to reconsider our bodies and environment more carefully. This book, the first monograph on the artist, describes many of his most notable works—some of which will be on view in the de Young in spring 2024—complete with imagery of his various performances around the world and a timeline that describes the artist’s personal history and inspirations (or“seeds”) for his projects. Uniquely, the book will have a section devoted to Lee’s newly created “Breath Works,” a selection of which will be featured on a special paper, creating a work of art for a reader to experience within the book itself. Hardcover, 272 pages.
