Stitching Love and Loss tells the story of the creation of a quilt, made in 1942 by Missouri Pettway following the death of her husband. This quilt was formed from pieces of his old clothes and was carried in the family for generations.
Author Lisa Gail Collins examines this moving story to look at larger issues of loss and grief, memory and art, and the value of mourning. Placing this singular quilt within its historical and cultural context, Collins illuminates the perseverance and creativity of the African American women quilters in this rural community. Paperback, 200 pages.
