Fashioning San Francisco: A Century of Style offers the opportunity to explore a facet of our city through an examination of the permanent collection of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, which is home to one of the most significant collections of twentieth- and twenty-first-century women’s costume in the United States. Through exemplary gifts of high fashion and haute couture from Bay Area residents, the collection has grown to have remarkable strengths in women’s designs spanning these centuries, with outstanding works by Gabrielle Chanel, Callot Soeurs, Christian Dior, Madame Grés, Christian Lacroix, Alexander McQueen, and Yves Saint Laurent.
