Geisha With Fan Metal Bookmark

The bookmark was inspired by one of the "beauties" in Kitagawa Utamaro's triptych of courtesans and children strolling along a riverbank in the historic city of Edo (modern-day Tokyo). Japanese prints depicting actors or courtesans and the world they inhabited are referred to as ukiyo-e or the "art of the Floating World." Widely sought after by collectors since the mid-19th century, Ukiyo-e is perhaps the most popular and best-known of Japanese art forms in the Western world. Finished with solid brass, electro-plated with non-tarnishing silver finish and giclee print. Measures .75 x 2.25 in.
